It should work in certain situations but not all. I would still want GMail to support true disposable email ids which have no resemblance to the original id. It is a good tip though to get around the spammers in some situations, as is using multiple ids + email forwarding trick.</description>

		<description>Thanks for the great suggestions! Both the tricks work for me right now, but I would like to  see GMail supporting a better way to do (2). Archiving all labeled messages even before reading them creates its own inefficiencies. I am adding the hints to the main post.</description>
